The Weight of Womanhood

Let’s backtrack a little. When I started this space on women’s health, I said I wanted to bring our conversations out of whispered corners and into the open. Conversations that too often happen quietly, about periods, contraception, tiredness, or menopause, but deserve to be heard and understood more fully.

I’ve already shared a piece on tiredness, one of the hidden weights many women carry and that is just the beginning.

The Weight of Womanhood is the first themed series I am sharing here. It is about the unseen responsibilities and expectations women carry, and how they shape not only our lives but also our health. From contraception that alters our bodies, to the double shift of work and home, to the silence around menopause or the hidden toll of heavy periods, these are weights we have been told to bear quietly.

Each post in this series will take one of those burdens and hold it up to the light. My aim is not only to reflect on the cost, but also to ask: what would it mean to finally set some of this weight down?

I hope you will read along, share your own reflections if you wish, and perhaps feel a little lighter as we name together the weights women have carried for far too long.
