As we walk through my work outfit from yesterday, I thought we’d talk about something that has been occupying my mind lately: the mid-year sales.
If you haven’t noticed already, practically every major store is having a sale right now. And honestly? I’ve spent the last few days asking myself the same question over and over again:
What do I actually want to buy?
The problem is not that I don’t know what I want.
The problem is that I know myself.
I know that the moment I make the very first purchase, all self-control may disappear. Suddenly I’ll convince myself that everything is a necessity. I’ll start adding things to baskets, checking out sales, justifying purchases and telling myself things like, “Well, it’s reduced, so technically I’m saving money.”
We all know that logic doesn’t hold up.
I’ve been loving off-shoulder tops recently, and this one is from Zara. The trousers are also from Zara and came with the belt, which I love because it makes getting dressed so much easier.
Now let’s discuss the shoes.
These beautiful heels are from Dune.
And here’s the funny thing: this isn’t actually what I wore to work.
This is what I wish I had worn to work.
Because heels completely elevate this look. They lengthen the legs, add elegance and make the entire outfit feel more polished.
But I decided against it.
Simply because sometimes I don’t want to be the event.
Anyway, back to the sales.
I’ve been trying to create a sensible list instead of randomly buying things, so here are the items currently sitting at the top of my wishlist.
1. A New work bag
My pink work bag has served me faithfully for a very long time.
A very long time.
The funny thing is that I don’t even particularly like pink.
So I think it’s time.
The bag deserves retirement and I deserve an upgrade.
2. A Pair of Sneakers
This one is entirely my fault.
Two pairs of my trainers somehow found new homes with friends.
They saw them.
They loved them.
They asked for them.
And I said yes.
Which was very kind of me at the time.
Slightly less kind to present-day me who now needs trainers.
3. Molton Brown Floral Body Oil
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ll already know that I love Molton Brown.
I love floral fragrances.
I love products that make everyday routines feel luxurious.
And this floral body oil has been calling my name.
4. MAC Red Lipstick
This is non-negotiable.
I told you all that this summer belongs to red lipstick.
After barely wearing it through autumn, winter and spring, I’ve suddenly become obsessed.
So yes, another MAC red lipstick will definitely be finding its way into my basket.
5. Brown Heels for My Birthday Photoshoot
My birthday is coming up.
Last year I planned a photoshoot and never got around to doing it.
This year I’m actually doing it.
The brown heels are specifically for that photoshoot, and I already have the vision in my head.
Now whether I stick to these five items is an entirely different conversation.
The funny thing is that I’ve actually been very good this month.
Apart from birthday gifts and the usual beauty appointments, I haven’t really bought anything.
Nothing significant.
Nothing exciting.
Which is probably why my hands are starting to itch.
You know that feeling when your savings account is looking healthy and a tiny voice starts whispering:
“Spoil yourself.”
I’m trying very hard not to listen.
We’ll see how long that lasts.
So tell me, what are you buying during the mid-year sales?
Or are you showing more discipline than I am?
With Love,
Ayo
