Hi guys,
How have you been?
At first, I thought I was simply exhausted. Between my 9-to-5 job, events, my businesses, blogging, motherhood, and all the little things in between, it felt reasonable to assume I was just doing too much.
So I started cutting things back.
I stepped away from the blog for a bit. I reduced a lot of the extras I normally do with the boys. We stuck to the basics. They read their books, and I focused on getting through work and running the businesses.
But even after stepping back, I was still exhausted.
Not normal tired.
The kind of tired where the smallest task feels overwhelming.
The kind of tired where you want to sleep all the time but somehow still struggle to sleep.
The kind of tired that starts affecting your mood, your focus, your motivation, and even how you see the world around you.
I found myself becoming fixated on things because I was so tired. I kept trying to figure out what was wrong. Part of me wondered if it was stress. Another part of me knew there had to be something else going on.
Then I came across an Instagram post from a doctor talking about people in their 30s.
She said that when highly productive people suddenly become unproductive, constantly tired, overwhelmed, forgetful, or mentally foggy, it may be worth getting some blood tests done.
She was absolutely right.
I decided to have a full blood screening done.
And that’s when things started to reveal themselves.
The only result I’m going to share today is that my vitamin D levels were significantly low.
Suddenly, everything started making sense.
The exhaustion.
The lack of interest in things I normally enjoy.
The constant need to sleep.
The feeling that even simple tasks required far more energy than they should.
Looking back, I think there were signs much earlier. Around February, I remember telling my GP that I suspected it might be vitamin D. At one point, my legs felt so weak and uncomfortable that I described it as feeling like they were about to fall out of their sockets.
I missed a follow-up blood test at the time, but now I wish I had pushed harder to investigate sooner.
So if you’re reading this and you’re in your 30s, please take your health seriously.
If something feels off, don’t ignore it.
Don’t assume you’re just tired.
Don’t assume you’re just busy.
Don’t assume you’ll “push through it.”
When we’re children, our parents are constantly reminding us to look after ourselves. As adults, that responsibility becomes ours.
Nobody is going to care about your health more than you do.
My advice?
Get regular health checks.
Get your blood work done.
Ask questions.
Pay attention to changes in your body.
And if you live in the UK, please take your vitamin D supplements. We simply don’t get enough sunlight for much of the year, and deficiency is incredibly common.
I know I’m not a doctor, and this isn’t medical advice, but I can honestly say that getting checked has given me answers I desperately needed.
This is your reminder.
Your health is not something to put on the “I’ll deal with it later” list.
Take it seriously.
Take care of yourself.
And if you’ve been feeling unusually tired, overwhelmed, unmotivated, or simply unlike yourself, perhaps it’s time to get checked.
I’m looking forward to seeing how things improve over the coming weeks.
Hopefully, I’ll have more energy.
Hopefully, I’ll feel more like myself again.
And hopefully, I’ll be back to showing up consistently in all the places I love.
Have a lovely Friday, everyone.
