WHAT THE BODY REVEALED - Part 3 (Inspector Sanmi - A Crime Story)

### THE INVESTIGATION BEGINS
Back at the station, Inspector Sanmi stood before his team.

Still.
Focused.
Already ahead.
---
“Let’s not assume anything.”
---

Then, calmly
He assigned roles:

• Tolu – Autopsy
• Tomi – Neighbour enquiries
• Tobi – Workplace investigation
• Wande – Financial and phone records
• Damilola – The gateman
• Sanmi – Femi

No wasted words.
No hesitation.

Everyone moved.
Fast.

### TOMI & DAMILOLA — THE GATEMAN
As Tomi stepped back into the compound, something clicked.
Not loudly.
But enough.

The gateman.
Ayodele.

He wasn’t outside.
He was inside.

That alone
Changed the story.

They found him.
Standing.
Waiting.
Trying not to look nervous.
Failing.

Damilola: “Where were you all day yesterday?”
Ayodele: “I was at home.”

A pause.

Tomi and Damilola exchanged a look.
Small.
But loaded.

Tomi: “When last did you see madam?”
Ayodele: “She gave me breakfast after oga left.”

Another pause.

The sun outside was harsh.
Unforgiving.
The kind that made your skin burn.
But Ayodele
Was wearing a cardigan.

Tomi’s eyes dropped.
Then lifted again.
Slowly.

Tomi: “Take it off.”
Silence followed

Damilola: “Take it off.”

Reluctantly
He took off the cardigan

Scratches.
Fresh.
Angry.
Uneven.

Across his arms.
His neck.

Tomi stepped closer.
Studied them.
Carefully.

Tomi: “Where did you get these?”
Ayodele: “A dog…”

Too quick.
Too weak.

Tomi leaned in slightly.
Voice lower now.
Controlled.

“If we check under madam’s nails…”
“…your DNA will be there.”

Ayodele’s composure broke.
Instantly.

“I didn’t kill her! She was nice to me!”

Too fast.
Too loud.
Too afraid.

They didn’t argue.
Didn’t push.

They just took him in.

### WORKPLACE & FINANCIAL DISCOVERY

At Femi’s workplace, Tobi moved quietly.
Observing more than speaking.

Every answer sounded the same.

“He’s a good man.”
“He loves his wife.”
“He can’t hurt her.”

Too clean.
Too aligned.

Tobi frowned slightly.
People are never that consistent.

Meanwhile

Wande sat with numbers.
And numbers don’t lie.

Transactions.
Large.
Frequent.
Unexplained.

Money flowing in
Out
Without a clear source.

Millions
Hidden.

But not well enough.

Wande: “These are serious irregularities.”
Sanmi: “Investments?”
Wande: “If they were… they wouldn’t look like this.”

A pause.

“Something is off.”

Sanmi nodded slowly.

“Get me a warrant.”

Now
There was motive.

### AUTOPSY REPORT - WHAT THE BODY SAID

Tolu walked in.
File in hand.
But his face said it first.

“This wasn’t random.”

The room stilled.

He opened the file.
“Cause of death, blunt force trauma to the head.”
“A heavy object.”
“Repeated impact.”

A beat.
“Her skull was fractured.”
“She bled out.”

Silence.

Then
The detail that changed everything.

“Estimated time of death…”
He looked up.
“…between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.”

Sanmi didn’t move.
But inside
Everything shifted.

Femi was at work.
At least
That’s what everyone believed.

Tolu continued.

“There are defensive wounds.”
“Scratches.”
“She fought back.”

Another pause.

“Whoever did this…”
“…was close to her.”

Not forced.
Not rushed.

This was not fear.
This was betrayal.

### THE FIRST CRACK
Sanmi leaned back slightly.
Thinking.
Reconstructing.

The open door.
No forced entry.

The gateman.
Inside.
Scratches.
Fear.

The body.
Fought back.
Trusted the attacker.

Sanmi spoke quietly.
“Either she knew her killer…”
“…or she let him in.”

The room went still.

Wande added:
“The phone records might confirm that.”

Sanmi nodded.

But something
Still didn’t sit right.

If Ayodele did it
Why stay?
Why not run?

And Femi
Sanmi’s eyes darkened slightly.

His reaction at the scene.

Too loud.
Too immediate.
Too certain.

Grief
But directed.

Sanmi exhaled slowly.
“Let’s not rush to conclusions.”

But in his mind
The case had already begun to split.

Two stories.
The obvious one.
And the real one.

Who Killed Her?

To be continued…
