Parenting Check-In: Week 3 “Progress Over Perfection”

Hi Parents,
A quick check-in.

How did week one and two of the homework grid go in your house?

Does your child now know:

📍 your home address

📞 your phone number

In case of an emergency?

If not, today is a great day to start. No pressure. No guilt. Just start.

Week Two: Magnetic & Non-Magnetic

Now, week two… the magnetic and non-magnetic experiment 😄

Honestly? It was hilarious and educational.

I got two magnets,  one for the older child and one for his little brother (because let’s be real, younger siblings will join in). We tested what was magnetic and what wasn’t, and let me tell you… even I was shocked.

Some things look metallic but actually aren’t metal at all 😳

We learned about materials that attract magnets and those that don’t, proper learning, proper curiosity.

He was so excited he decided to:

continue the experiment all week

show his classmates

present it in class

And yes… he got merits.

Proud mum moment.

This Week’s Task… and My Honest Confession

Now… this week’s task is netball and rugby.

Let me be honest with you:

❄️ I do not like the cold.

❄️ I am not standing in the garden setting cones.

❄️ If it were summer? Different story.

So guess what?

I skipped the week.

No shame. No stress.

Jumping Ahead: Lent Conversations

Instead, we’re jumping ahead to next week’s task

“Christians traditionally give something up for Lent. What would you try to go without?

This one genuinely excites me.

We’re Christians, and while I’ve spoken to him about fasting before, this is a beautiful opportunity to go deeper:

• why we fast

• the spiritual benefits

• the physical benefits

• giving up more than just food

Fasting season is approaching for me, and it’s something I truly love to participate in. Being able to explain it, share it, and let him learn more about God? That’s special.

New Resource for You 📄

Also…

I’ve uploaded a new Word document that speaks on Lent.

If this is a topic you want to discuss with your child, I’ve broken it down into an easy way to do it across five days, that’s exactly what we’ll be doing in our house.

So this is your gentle reminder:

  • If you haven’t started, it’s not too late
  • You don’t have to start from week one
  •  You can skip a week
  • You can swap weeks

Life happens.

Winter happens.

Parenting is flexible.

You don’t have to be rigid to be intentional.

I’ll check in again soon.

Have a lovely Tuesday.

With Love,

Baby Girl 😂 (Ayo)
