How the Holy Spirit Inspires Business Decisions (and Saves Us from Mistakes)

One of my favourite Bible verses of all time is Proverbs 3:5–6:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”

This verse has carried me through so many seasons of life. It’s a constant reminder that no matter how knowledgeable, skilled, or experienced I am, my wisdom will never compare to God’s.

And I’ve seen this verse come alive in very practical, even simple ways. Let me share two recent examples from my event business that taught me just how powerful it is to lean on the Holy Spirit.

Example 1: The Vegan Donut Lesson 🍩

A couple of weeks ago, I had an event where vegan donuts were on the menu. I clearly heard the Holy Spirit whisper, “Go to Morrisons.”

Now, here’s the thing: I rarely ever buy donuts, and I had never checked Morrisons for them before. So naturally, my logic kicked in: “Tesco is bigger, surely they’ll have vegan donuts.”

So I ignored the gentle nudge and drove miles to Tesco. Guess what? No vegan donuts.

Still stubborn, I tried another store, Co-op. Again, no donuts. All this time, the Spirit kept nudging me: “Morrisons.”

Finally, tired and out of options, I went back to Morrisons, just around the corner from my house. And right there, waiting for me, were the exact vegan donuts I needed.

I couldn’t help but laugh at myself. If only I had obeyed at the start, I would have saved time, stress, and effort. That day, God reminded me that obedience to the Spirit is always the shortcut.

Example 2: Creative Inspiration from God 🌿🎉

As an event planner, creativity is my lifeline. But sometimes, I hit a wall. For a recent Jamaican-themed birthday party, the client wanted green, black, and yellow as the colors.

Now, I’ll be honest. I don’t particularly like yellow. And when I looked online for inspiration, I didn’t love what I found. Everything looked cliché or uninspired.

So, I turned to the Holy Spirit. I prayed, “Lord, show me what to do. How do I bring this to life in a fresh way?”

And He did. Piece by piece, the inspiration came. He showed me how to use yellow in a way that felt elegant and vibrant, how to mix it with other colors, and how to design the centerpieces.

When I put everything together, it was stunning. The client loved it. And I knew deep down, this was not just my skill; it was divine creativity flowing through me.

What These Lessons Teach Us

These two experiences may seem small, but they carry powerful truths:

  • Obedience saves time. Listening to the Spirit is always faster than leaning on our own logic.

  • God cares about details. Even donuts! If He can guide me there, how much more the bigger things in life?

  • Creativity comes from the Creator. When we invite Him in, He inspires us beyond what we could have thought or imagined.

Encouragement for You 💛

If you’re reading this, I want you to know, you don’t have to struggle alone. Whether it’s business decisions, creativity, or even everyday choices, the Holy Spirit is ready to guide you.

Yes, we won’t always get it right. Sometimes, like me, we’ll go the long way round. But don’t beat yourself up. This walk with Christ is a journey, not a one-day transformation.

God is patient. He’s faithful. And He’s always ready to lead us if we’ll listen.

So today, choose to lean on Him. Trust that He knows the path, even when it doesn’t make sense. Because He truly does direct our steps.
