I told God, “Lord, I don’t want today to be like every other service. I want to hear you. I want an encounter with You.”
And He answered.
During worship, God reminded me of one of my callings: to be an intercessor; someone who stands in the gap for others in prayer.
The Watchman’s Call
Ezekiel 3:17 says:
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.”
An intercessor is a watchman. Someone who sees, hears, and responds in prayer. It’s not a title, it’s a responsibility.
Lessons From My Past
Back in university, God began to stir this gift in me. I would dream, and those dreams would come to pass.
One day, I had a troubling dream. Instead of praying immediately, I told myself, “I’ll pray later with my prayer partner.” But I didn’t. By the very next day, it had already happened.
I felt so heavy. God had shown me something, but I failed to respond to it. It reminded me of James 4:17:
“If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”
I learned that delayed obedience is still disobedience.
Rediscovering the Call
Fast forward to July this year, during my fasting period, God spoke again: “I have called you to intercede. Pray for others.”
At first, I resisted. I thought, “But Lord, I haven’t even finished praying for myself.”
Today, during worship, God opened my eyes to a friend’s situation. He nudged me: Pray now. And as I prayed, I felt His presence strongly.
Galatians 6:2 came alive in that moment:
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Some battles are too heavy for one person. Sometimes your prayer is the lifeline someone else needs.
Walking in This Assignment
From today, I’ve made up my mind:
• If you share something with me, it will end in prayer.
• If I give advice, it will be backed with Scripture.
• If I see a need, I will intercede.
Because this is who God has called me to be.
1 Timothy 2:1 says:
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.”
So if God has called you to something, whatever it may be, don’t ignore it. Take baby steps. Start small. Be faithful.
Philippians 1:6 promises us:
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Today, God reminded me who I am: a watchman, an intercessor, a vessel.
And I will not let this calling slip away again.
Amen.
