Welcome to this space on Women’s Health

Welcome to this space on women’s health

When I think about women’s health, I don’t just picture hospital corridors or medical textbooks.

I think about real moments: the friend whispering about her heavy periods at a sleepover, the aunt who always carried painkillers in her handbag but never explained why, or the colleague who blamed her tiredness on “just being busy” when it was really something more.

So often, the conversations that shape our understanding of our bodies happen in kitchens, over coffee, or in hushed tones between friends. They are where many of us first learn about our cycles, our symptoms, and our wellbeing. But too often those conversations are half-whispered, incomplete, or weighed down with myths.

This series is my attempt to continue those conversations more openly. Each week I will share a story - sometimes my own, an experience shared with me anonymously and use it as a starting point to explore what is really happening in our bodies. Think of it as sitting down with a friend who can share the science as well as the stories.

We’ll talk about periods, hormones, tiredness, contraception, perimenopause, and all the things we sometimes brush aside because they feel awkward or “just part of being a woman”. My hope is that you will see yourself in these stories, learn something new, and feel encouraged to listen more closely to your own body.

Women’s health is not just about surviving; it is about thriving. And it starts with conversations like these.
