It’s You

Every time I close my eyes,
it’s you.
Every time I want to talk,
it’s you.

In my dreams,
it’s you

Every time I daydream,
every time I dance,
every time a song says
what my heart cannot,
it’s you.

Every time I lie awake in bed,
reaching for a warmth
that once felt like home,
it’s you.

Every time something wonderful happens
and I cannot wait to tell someone,
it’s you.

Every time I have an idea
I want to pull apart,
turn upside down,
and build all over again,
it’s you.

Every time I laugh too loudly,
I remember how you laughed with me.

Every time the world feels heavy,
I remember how your voice
made it feel lighter.

Every time I imagine tomorrow,
somehow,
you are still standing in it.

In every quiet moment,
every crowded room,
every beautiful thought,
every ordinary day
it’s you.

Always you.

And then I open my eyes.
I reach for you.
I look for you
in all the places you used to be

and remember
I can’t

Yet somehow,
in everything I do,
in everything I feel,
in every little piece of me,
it is still you.

Every time.

It’s you.

With Love,
Ayo
