Whenever I’m heading into work, there are a few things that always come with me.
I was last in the office on Monday, and before we dive into my top 10 essentials, can we just talk about Monday for a second?
It was actually a really lovely day.
For the first time ever, I realised that from our work car park, I could actually see the beach. I genuinely had no idea it was visible from there until Monday. During my break, I stood outside just looking at the sea, imagining all the things I’d rather be doing on the beach. It was such a peaceful moment, and my mind immediately filled with all the things I’d love to do there again.
The only downside was that my friend was away, so I definitely missed having her around. The office just wasn’t quite the same without her. Apart from that, though, it was a really good day.
Now, onto my work bag essentials.
The first essential isn’t actually something inside my bag; it’s my Stasher bag itself.
Everything I need for work lives inside it.
I’m not one of those people who throw random things into the bottom of a handbag. I like everything to have its own place. Instead of my bag becoming one big jumble of receipts, chargers, lipsticks and loose bits, everything I need sits neatly inside my Stasher bag.
Whenever I need something, I know exactly where it is.
Although I use mine to organise my work essentials, it’s actually much more versatile than that. You can use it to carry your lunch or sandwiches, and because it’s waterproof, it’s brilliant for keeping things protected too. It’s honestly one of those little purchases that has made staying organised so much easier.
The very first things inside my Stasher bag are my favourite yellow pen, my pencil and my pencil sharpener.
Now, the yellow pen deserves its own little mention.
It actually came from work. There were several different colours available, and for some reason, I was immediately drawn to the yellow one. Whoever ordered those pens deserves some appreciation because I absolutely love them.
Sometimes it’s the little things that make your workday run that bit more smoothly.
3. Paracetamol
The next thing I always carry is paracetamol.
Every now and then, I’ll get a headache or a tummy ache at work, so I like knowing I have something with me just in case.
I’m still trying to figure out what causes the tummy aches. My guess is that it’s because I wake up so early on office days, 4 a.m. is my normal start, and perhaps my body hasn’t fully recovered from the previous day before I’m rushing out the door. I’m not completely sure, but until I work it out, the paracetamol stays in my bag.
4. My Daily Vitamins
You’ll also find my supplements.
I carry my Zooki Vitamin C, Super Strength collagen and Vitamin D.
One thing I’ve become really intentional about this year is my health. My energy is coming back, I’m feeling much better, and I want to keep it that way. The only thing I’m still working on is drinking more water!
5. Hand Cream
Dry hands are simply not an option.
I always carry hand cream with me, although recently I’ve been using two products interchangeably: the Eucerin Repair Cream and the Naturium Body Butter.
The Eucerin does exactly what I need it to do.
The Naturium moisturises beautifully too… but I don’t think I’ll be buying it again.
The reason?
The scent.
I’m quite particular about fragrances. If a product is scented, I want to absolutely love the smell. If I don’t, I’d rather it had no fragrance at all. Unfortunately, this one just isn’t for me.
6. My Yellow M&S Wipes
Spot the wipes 😂
Yes, they’re just wipes.
But they’re yellow.
I know that sounds funny, but just like my yellow pen, they add a little bit of brightness to my day. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that make you smile.
I also like the size of the packet because it fits perfectly inside my Stasher bag.
7. My Emergency Perfume
This one has a story.
One morning, I rushed out of the house, drove all the way to work, and about thirty minutes before arriving, I realised something horrifying…
I’d forgotten to put on perfume.
I felt like I was having a crisis.
My first thought was, “Are there any shops nearby where I can quickly buy one?”
Then I remembered something.
Hidden inside my makeup bag was a tiny 2ml perfume sample.
It wasn’t even my favourite perfume, but at that moment, it absolutely saved the day.
Since then, I’ve never been without a little perfume sample in my work bag.
Lesson learnt.
8. A Tampon
This is simply one of those things I never leave home without.
Even though I use an app, our bodies sometimes decide they’re going to surprise us anyway.
I’d rather be prepared than caught off guard.
And if another woman ever needed one, I’d love to help.
9. My Chocolate-Coated Oreo
Now this deserves its own moment.
Years ago, Oreo used to make the most amazing chocolate-coated biscuits.
Then they discontinued them.
I still haven’t recovered.
Thankfully, I found an imported version in a shop one day, so whenever I see them, I buy them.
Now, let me tell you the correct way to eat one.
Take it out of the wrapper.
Place it on a ceramic plate.
Microwave it for a few seconds.
The chocolate melts…
Honestly?
Absolute heaven.
If Oreo ever brings them back, I’ll be first in the queue.
10. My Makeup Essentials
You’ll always find mascara, eyeliner and lipstick in my bag.
Well…
Usually.
My favourite red lipstick has completely disappeared.
I have absolutely no idea where it’s gone.
The worst part is that I don’t remember the exact shade, so I can’t simply order another one online. I’ll probably have to make a trip to Birmingham to visit a MAC store and find it again.
For now, my brown and burgundy lipsticks are doing the job.
Red!!!!⸻
Those are my ten work bag essentials!
Some are practical, some are completely sentimental, and a few come with stories I’ll probably never forget.
With Love,
Ayo
