We are created in God’s Image
Today’s Bible passage is Genesis 1:26-27:
“Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image and likeness, and let them rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky. Let them rule over the tame animals, over all the earth, and over all the small crawling animals on the earth.’ So God created human beings in his image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
This is not the first time I have read this passage, but every time I do, I see two things.
First, it reminds me who I am.
Second, it reminds me that there is no limit to what God can do through me.
One thing that stands out to me in this passage is that God created both male and female in His image.
This was before Adam and Eve entered the story.
This was before roles and responsibilities were discussed.
This was before the fall.
God’s first declaration over humanity was not about occupation or status. It was about identity.
So if you are a woman reading this today, please do not reduce yourself to being “just a helper.”
You are more than that.
God says you were created in His image and likeness.
Think about that for a moment.
What does it mean to be created in the image of God?
It means that God intentionally placed something of Himself within you.
The Characteristics of God
When I read Genesis 1, I don’t just see creation. I see the character of God.
God is creative.
God is productive.
God is innovative.
God is purposeful.
God is wise.
God is strategic.
God is powerful.
God is discerning.
God is generous.
God is compassionate.
God is a problem solver.
God brings order out of chaos.
God sees possibilities where others see limitations.
God creates something from what appears to be nothing.
God leads.
God nurtures.
God restores.
God multiplies.
God speaks life.
God inspires.
God builds.
God transforms.
And if we are created in His image, then these qualities should be reflected in us too.
This is why I love looking in the mirror.
Not because I am admiring myself.
But because sometimes I need to remind myself who God says I am.
I am created like God.
Therefore, I am creative.
I can produce.
I can build.
I can learn.
I can grow.
I can solve problems.
I can inspire others.
I can help people become the best version of themselves.
I am not stagnant.
I am not powerless.
I am not limited.
Stop Accepting Small When God Called You to Expand
Genesis 1:26 says:
“Let them rule… over all the earth.”
Let’s focus on those words.
All the earth.
God gave humanity authority, influence, responsibility, and capacity.
Yet so many of us spend our lives shrinking ourselves.
Someone says:
“You can’t do that.”
Someone says:
“People like us don’t achieve things like that.”
Someone says:
“It won’t work.”
Someone says:
“Telford is too small for that dream.”
And before long, their words become seeds in our hearts.
We begin to accept limitations that God never placed on us.
We begin to think smaller.
Dream smaller.
Expect smaller.
Believe smaller.
But God is not small.
God is expansion.
God is growth.
God is possibility.
God is vision.
God is creativity.
God is excellence.
God is abundance.
So why are we allowing ourselves to be defined by limitations that God never spoke over us?
Give Yourself Permission to Dream
I know that some people think I am overly optimistic.
Maybe I am.
But I would rather be optimistic than cynical.
I would rather believe that something is possible than decide it cannot be done before I even try.
God has given us permission to dream.
Not because every dream will happen exactly as we imagine it.
But because He never intended us to live trapped by fear, doubt, and other people’s limitations.
Every time I read Genesis 1, I give myself permission to dream again.
I give myself permission to become.
I give myself permission to grow.
I give myself permission to believe that there is more ahead than what I can currently see.
And today, I want to give you that same permission.
Stop limiting yourself.
Stop shrinking your vision.
Stop allowing negative voices to become louder than God’s voice.
There is more in you.
There is more ahead of you.
There is more possible for you.
God created you in His image.
Never forget who you are.
Have a wonderful Monday.
With Love,
Ayo
