When you are Away - Day 11

For the readers’ sake,

I won’t paint a perfect picture.

We have had defining moments too

And one of them was the day I was so mad at you.

It’s the first time I’m telling you.

I want to recall that fight.

I was the one doing the fighting,

Though I’m not sure you noticed.

I pulled back.

Stopped completely.

Because of something you said.

At first, I didn’t understand why.

Or maybe… I did.

You didn’t understand what you were feeling,

And it scared you.

So you said something that hurt me.

I tried not to hold on.

But it took two months

Two months of distance

To realize that what I felt for you

Ran deeper than I thought.

I had to sit in the hurt,

Replay the moment

Over and over

Until it finally made sense.

I could have walked away

After the words you chose,

But I stayed.

I challenged you

Because I understood why.

I know you didn’t see it coming.

You were defensive.

But I was prepared.

I wasn’t going to let you minimize what we share.

Sometimes, like today,

My mind drifts back.

Back to that day,

Back to the beauty and the pain,

Back to why you needed to call us ‘family’.

I’m not mad anymore.

Every story has its moments.

This was one of ours.

Not sure how it all started, here is the story of how it all began.
