When you are Away - Day 17

Let’s picture this together.

When you and I see each other again

Hopefully, this time you’d lose the shades.

And I’ll catch your eyes in full,

before you have a chance to look away.

I know you’ll smile

That quick one that slips out

before you can stop it.

And I’ll act like I didn’t notice…

Though we both know,

I notice everything.

You’ll try to play it safe.

Pretending nothing’s changed.

Pretending you didn’t spend the entire time

wishing I was in your suitcase.

Pretending it’s just another meeting.

Pretending like you didn’t see this daily entry.

But I’ll see right through it.

(I always do.)

Maybe my heart will skip.

I think yours will too.

Maybe we’ll both pretend a little harder,

while our eyes do all the talking.

Maybe I’ll tease you.

So let’s picture this together:

No distance.

No silence.

Just you.

Just me.

Just us.

And the wavelength we can’t hide…

even if we try.

And maybe, finally,

we’ll both stop pretending.

Or perhaps we won’t.

But either way

You’ll know I was right here,

the whole time.
